Mayan Families

Mayan Families was founded by Patricia Mort and Sharon Smart-Poage. They have been living and working with the Maya indigenous communities of the Atitlan region of Guatemala for over twenty years. Mayan Families provides assistance and opportunities to the indigenous people of Guatemala, in particular in the Lake Atitlan area, through education, community programs and construction.  Last year 830 students attended school because of student sponsorships provided by supporters of Mayan Families. As of January 19th, 260 of those students are waiting to be sponsored for the 2009 school year. By sponsoring a student, you can help a family break out of the cycle of poverty through the empowerment of education
